PETERSEN MEDIA: After a mistake cost him a top finish one week ago in Hanford, CA, Tanner Carrick would not let the same thing happen to him on Saturday night in Marysville, CA as he would make a late race move to record a second-place finish at the ‘Open Wheel Sprint Car Opener’.
“We had another really fast racecar,” Tanner Carrick said. “My draw skills are a little rusty evidently, but to come forward on a pretty hooked up track and finish second to (younger brother) Blake is pretty cool.”
Very pleased with the speed he has had early in 2021, Carrick would set his night up nicely as he timed the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T machine in second fastest in time trials.
Working his way to a second-place finish in heat race competition, the Lincoln, CA driver would find himself pulling the seven pill, placing him in the fourth row to start the feature event.
On a very fast and narrow racing surface, Carrick would slowly work his way forward though he would need to be extremely patient with the everyone turning down great lap times.
Jockeying for position early, Carrick would settle into the sixth position, before moving into fourth after a lap eighth caution.
Spending much of the race in fourth as the track never really widened out, Carrick would move into third with just four laps left in the race. Chasing after Brent Bjork in the closing laps, Carrick would get by his competitor on the race’s final lap to finish in second and make it a one-two finish for Carrick Motorsports.
“It was tough starting that far back on a track that fast,” Carrick said. “I do think it shows how strong our team is, and we are all really excited for the year ahead and to finally get back racing.”
