Tanner Carrick 6th and 13th at Louie Vermeil Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking part in the opening night of the Louie Vermeil Classic competing with NARC and USAC/CRA, Tanner Carrick ran sixth in winged action before a 13th place finish in non-winged competition.

“It was cool to get to Calistoga Speedway and do double-duty,” Tanner Carrick said. “Unfortunately, with it being the first race back the track surface wasn’t great and the track was really slick and abrasive.”

Kicking things off in USAC/CRA action, Carrick got the busy night underway by timing the CVC/Cemex/CA Waterfowl backed No. 83T entry in 13th fastest in time trials.

Racing his way to a third-place finish in his heat race, Carrick was locked into the feature event where he rolled off the starting grid from the 13th starting position.

When the USAC/CRA feature came to life on a very slick and abrasive surface, the Lincoln, CA driver settled in as the race to get into the rubber was on. Getting in line in 13th, Carrick settled in as he worked around the ½ mile facility. With not a ton of moving and shaking going on, Carrick held his spot for the duration of the race and closed the race out by taking the checkered flag in 13th.

In the NARC portion of the event, Carrick went out in the last group of time trials and ended up timing in seventh fastest on a very slick surface that was taking rubber in areas.

Following the time trial session, officials decided to cancel NARC heat races due to track conditions and time constraints and that ultimately lined Carrick up in the seventh position for the 25-lap feature event.

Falling back to eighth when the green flag was displayed to the field, Carrick slipped back to 9th on a restart just past the halfway point of the race.

With a couple of late issues taking place just ahead of him, Carrick was able to work his way forward and into sixth in the closing laps.

Closing in on the Top-5, Carrick ultimately accepted Ed Entz’s checkered flag with a sixth place finish.
