PETERSEN MEDIA: Heading to Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night for the second round of Sprint Car Challenge Tour action, Tanner Carrick would rebound from an early hole and come away with an 11th place finish.
“We were in a pretty loaded six car group for time trials and our heat race, and a mistake in time trails on my part really put us in a hole for the rest of the night,” Tanner Carrick said.
On a very fast and hooked up Petaluma Speedway, the Lincoln, CA driver would get off to a tough start on Saturday night as he timed his CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed mount in fifth fastest in his time trial group.
Lining up fifth in his heat race, the bottom would not be the place you wanted to be as Carrick would fall back to sixth. Unable to race his way back into a transfer position, Carrick would be forced into the ‘B’.
Using the ‘B’ to make some adjustments for the impending 35-lap feature, Carrick would race to the win and find himself in the 21st starting position. On a very locked down surface, Carrick would get off to a bit of a slow start as it would be tough to move around in traffic.
With the race’s first nine laps clicking off without stoppage, Carrick would use a double file restart to his advantage as he jumped up into the 15th position.
Racing into 13th before another stoppage on lap-18, the next restart would see Carrick make up more ground as he found himself up in 11th and battling for the a spot inside the Top-10.
As the laps clicked off, Carrick noticed he began to lose power. While it wasn’t enough to see him bow out of the feature, it was enough to pause his progress. Able to hang on for the final laps, Carrick capped the night off with an 11th place finish.
“We got going forward in the feature, but I lost a little power and I really made it tough to keep moving up with how fast the track was,” Carrick added. “The guys will go through everything at the shop this week, and we will get ready for two nights in Chico, CA this weekend.”
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Starts: 17, Wins: 1, Top 5’s: 9, Top 10’s: 12
