PETERSEN MEDIA: Though his 2019 season has been off and running with Micros and Midgets, Tanner Carrick made his season debut aboard his family owned Sprint Car on Saturday afternoon in Stockton, CA where he would make a bid for a Top-Five finish until mechanical issues forced him to the infield with just six-laps left in the race.
“It was an up and down night, but we really hit on something in the feature event and I felt really good,” Tanner Carrick said. “We got rolling pretty well, but after I got into fourth I lost power and pulled off.”
Lining the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T machine up eighth in his first heat race of the night, the Lincoln, CA driver would pick up a couple of positions on the slick racing surface as he would tally a sixth place finish.
From the pole of his second heat race, Carrick would still get acclimated to the slick surface that made up the spacious Stockton Dirt Track, as he would finish back in the fifth position.
Going to work on the Tanner Carrick Racing machine, the USAC National Midget Series regular would find himself in the 11th starting position for the 30-lap feature event.
Following some quick track work, a racy surface was presented to field of cars, and Carrick had a piece underneath him that he felt very comfortable in and it showed. Slicing and dicing his way forward, Carrick would crack the Top-Five in the race’s waning laps.
On the 24th circuit he would make his way into fourth, but just after his move he felt something amiss aboard his machine and pulled into the infield bringing his night to an early end.
“It was great to get back into the Sprint Car, and I was pleased with how we progressed through the night,” Carrick said. “I think we had something for a podium run, but had some bad luck at the end of the race. Thanks to Clark and everyone for their hard work, my parents for their support, and all of our partners.”
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Arai, and Spike Chassis for their support.
