Tanner Carrick 2nd at Johnny Key Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to Ocean Speedway on Saturday night for the Johnny Key Classic with NARC, Tanner Carrick put together a strong run that culminated with him picking up second place finish.

“Overall it was a really good night for our team, Tanner Carrick said. “We were able to time in well, get into the Dash, and we were right in contention to battle for the win.”

Making the return trip to Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA after taking last weekend off, Carrick got off to a quick start as he timed the CVC/Cemex/CA Waterfowl backed No. 83T entry in third fastest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Carrick quickly raced into third on a surface that was extremely fast early in the night. Settling into third, Carrick’s third place finish was enough to get him into the Dash where he took the green flag from the outside of the front row.

Starting the six-lap shootout alongside Bud Kaeding, Carrick settled into second and went on to finish in the runner up position as he again found himself on the front row with Bud Kaeding for the feature event.

With the race’s initial start being negated by a red, Carrick ran in second when the action finally came to life.

Pacing Kaeding as they raced into traffic, Carrick was able to close in on the leader but was unable to mount a serious challenge. With a yellow coming at the halfway point on the 15^th lap, Carrick looked to make a move on the ensuing double-file restart.

When the green replaced the yellow, Carrick again slipped into second as he chased after Kaeding.

Getting close to his rear bumper as they raced through traffic in the final laps, Carrick held on to finish in the second position when the checkered flag was displayed to the field.
