Tanner Carrick 13th at Forni Classic as He Now Sets Up for Summer Midwest Swing

PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night in search of his first Mark Forni Classic title, Tanner Carrick would not have the run he had hoped for as he picked up a 13th place finish in what was his final start in California before his Summer Midwest swing.

“Saturday night I felt like we had good speed, buy not getting into the redraw really hindered us and with the track being so good around the top it was tough to make up a lot of ground,” Tanner Carrick said. “My guys did a great job, and I am excited to head to the Midwest and see if we can improve on last year’s results.”

Timing in fifth fastest in his qualifying flight, the Lincoln, CA runner lined up on the front row of his heat race alongside Tony Gomes. Needing the win to earn a berth in the nightly redraw, Carrick and Gomes would put on a show up front as they both jockeyed for the top spot.

With Gomes holding the edge, he went on to grab the win as Carrick’s second place finish still transferred him into the 25-lap, $5000-to-win Mark Forni Classic feature event.

Lining up just behind the redraw cars in the feature event, Carrick took the green flag from the 10th starting position. On the extremely slick surface with the heavy car count and warm summer temperatures, much of the field would go to work on the high side of the speedway with a thick cushion built up for them to lean on.

Settling into 10th with much of the field in single file formation in the early goings, restarts on this night turned single file opposed to double-file due to the track being so dominant on one lane.

With passing at a premium, Carrick would attempt to make the bottom groove work opposed to following the rest of the field, but he would slowly lose a couple of positions on track in the closing laps.

As the checkered flag flew on the Mark Forni Classic, Carrick capped the night off with a 13th place finish.

“It was a little disappointing to fall out of the Top-10 late, but I wanted to see if I could make something happen,” Carrick said.

Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Hanson Truss, Eddie’s Lincoln Auto Body, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts: 35, Wins: 4, Top 5’s: 16, Top 10’s: 22
