PETERSEN MEDIA: Making the trip to Las Vegas, NV to do double duty with USCS and High Limit over the weekend, Tanner Carrick picked up a pair of Non-Wing top five finishes and made some big improvements on their winged car from last year’s trip.
“We had a great non winged car all weekend,” Tanner Carrick said. “Our winged car we were a little off, but we were in a much better spot than we were last year so that was definitely a positive.”
In non winged action on Thursday night, Carrick timed in fastest in his qualifying flight, which then put him in the third row of his heat race. From the fifth starting spot, Carrick was able to showcase his speed as he worked his way forward and tallied a heat race win.
Lining up fourth in the feature event, Carrick spent his night battling the likes of Ryan Bernal, Brady Bacon, and Ricky Lewis as the leaders sliced and diced around the tricky surface.
When the race drew to a close, Carrick closed it out with a fourth-place finish.
In High Limit action on Thursday night, Carrick got off to a slower start than he desired as he timed in 15th fastest in his qualifying flight and ran seventh in his heat.
Forced into the ‘B’, Carrick worked his way forward from seventh and secured the fourth and final transfer position into the feature event. Starting 24th, Carrick wasn’t able to get going from the tail of the field and finished 24th on this night.
Friday night saw another night of double-duty for the Lincoln, CA driver and he continued to shine in non-wing action as he timed in fourth fastest in his qualifying group and again raced his way to a heat race win.
Lining up on the front row of the USCS feature event, Carrick jumped out to the early lead and looked very strong out front. While he led the way, behind him Ryan Bernal was closing in. Able to fend off Bernal for a few laps, Carrick coughed up the lead with 10-to-go.
Slipping back into second, Carrick would chase after Bernal though he wasn’t able to close in on him as he capped the non-wing portion of the trip with a second-place finish.
Friday in High Limit action, Carrick got off to a much better start than he did on Thursday as he timed in ninth fastest in time trials, and pocketed a fifth-place finish in heat race competition.
Transferring directly into the feature event, Carrick lined up 18th on the starting grid. Jumping into 16th as soon as the race came to life, Carrick settled into and worked around the slick surface.
Holding the spot all race long, Carrick closed his night out with a 16th place finish.
With the non-wing division not on Saturday’s schedule, Carrick was solely in action with High Limit as he got the night kicked off by timing in eighth fastest in time trials.
Again, finishing fifth in his heat, Carrick moved into the feature event where he ended up with an 18th place finish.
“It was a busy weekend, and I am thankful for everyone that made it possible,” Carrick noted. “Happy with the progress we made in the winged car, and looking forward to our CA schedule starting to ramp up.”
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, California Waterfowl, Interstate Oil, D.R. Horton, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Hanson Truss, TC Guide Service, Eddie’s Lincoln Auto Body, Simpson Strong-Tie, A&A Concrete Supply, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Starts: 8, Wins: -0, Top 5’s: 3, Top 10’s: 4
