PETERSEN MEDIA: Checking in at The Stockton Dirt Track on Saturday night for the 360ci Tribute to GP, Tanner Carrick would use a strong run during the latter stages of the races to work his way to a second-place finish.
“The track was so fast and rough, it was really hard to make up a ton of ground,” Tanner Carrick said. “We had a good car, and in the closing stages of the race I was able to make a couple big moves to get into second but didn’t have enough time to track down Colby (Copeland).”
With 48 cars checked in for the annual November event at Stockton Dirt Track, Carrick timed the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83t machine in second fastest in his qualifying group.
Picking up a second-place finish in his heat race, the Lincoln, CA driver would earn a spot in the redraw where the seven-pill put him in the fourth row to start the 25-lap feature.
In a race that saw a little bit of everything, including an open red for fuel on the race’s ninth lap, Carrick would do a great job of working his way forward on the extremely rough and tumble racing surface.
Working into fifth on the 10th lap, Carrick would stay patient as he tracked down Willie Croft and Tristan Guardino late to overtake the second spot by way of two beautiful moves in turn four.
Giving it all he had in the closing laps trying to catch race long leader Colby Copeland who found himself in traffic, Carrick would be unable to erase the deficit as he capped the night off with a nice run to second.
“I am very happy with how our night ended up after starting seventh on a really tough track,” Carrick said. “Thanks to Clark and the guys for really working hard all night long.”
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support
BY THE NUMBERS: Starts: 32, Wins: 3, Top 5’s: 16, Top 10’s: 24
ON TAP: Carrick will now head to Arizona this weekend and return to action with the USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget Series.
