All Summer long Tanner Carrick had been knocking on the door of his first win in a winged sprint car. Friday night that changed as Carrick drove around Shane Golobic on the 23rd lap and went on to win at Silver Dollar Speedway during the track’s regular season finale.
“It just feels incredible to finally pull this off,” Carrick said. “We had a fast racecar, and to pass one of the best in California to get the win is something I will never forget.”
Carrick had a great night all around as he kicked things off by earning quick time honors aboard the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T entry. Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Lincoln, CA pilot would finish third and earn a spot in the redraw.
When the redraw shook out, Carrick would find himself with the two pill and on the front row of the tracks’ final points race of the season and sharing the front row with Shane Golobic.
As the green flag dropped, Carrick and Golobic would battle for the top spot for the race’s first five laps with Golobic eventually getting the better end of the battle and pulling away.
Running well in the second position, the race would run at a non stop pace for the first 21 laps putting the leaders in traffic for much of the night allowing Carrick to close in and battle for the lead.
Following a lap 21 caution, Carrick would take advantage of the restart as he would stalk Golobic. On the 23rd lap, Carrick would go to the high side and drive by the race long leader out of turn two and come to the white flag in the race lead. Leading the final circuit with no issues, the 16-year-old wheel man was able to notch his first sprint win in what has been a great start to his career already.
Looking to continue his momentum, Carrick and company made the trip to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night where he would open his night up by timing in third quickest in time trials.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Carrick would continue to wow and impress onlookers as he forged his way forward and picked up the heat race win.
Taking part in another redraw, Carrick would continue to have good fortune as he would pull the two-pill again and line up with another one of Calfornia’s best, Andy Forsberg.
When the race came to life, Carrick would settle into second as he chased after Forsberg who was strong early. Keeping pace with the highly decorated driver, Carrick close in on him just as the race reached the halfway point.
Turning up the pressure for the race’s top spot, a slower car would get out of shape and while Forsberg made contact and kept going, Carrick would not be as lucky as contact would bring him to a stop and force him to the back of the pack on the 13th lap.
In the final 12 markers, Carrick would work his way back forward as he took the checkered flag in 11th.
“Saturday was another good night, we have really been fast and things are starting to click for us and I owe it all to my family and Clark Riolo,” Carrick added. “I really think we had something for the win on Saturday night but ran into some bad luck.”
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Arai, and Spike Chassis for their support.
