Getting his 2018 winged sprint car season kicked off on Saturday night in Marysville, CA, Tanner Carrick timed in well, won his heat race, but endured contact early in the feature event that ultimately brought his night to an end.
“We had a really good car all night long, and we felt pretty fast,” Tanner Carrick said. “Starting off the front row, I was excited to see what we could do but unfortunately I got under the leader and got a little tight and got into him. It cut down our right front and that ended our night.”
A total of 27 cars checked into the pit area on Saturday night to open the 2018 season up in California, and Carrick got his night underway by timing the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T entry in 11th quickest in time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the 2017 USAC National Midget Series Rookie of the Year was able to take care of business as he raced his way to the win and qualified for the all important Top-Eight redraw.
With Lady Luck by his side, Carrick would pull the one pill, which placed him on the pole for the 25-lap feature event.
On a fast Marysville Raceway surface, Carrick would slip back to second when the green flag was displayed the yellow flag immediately flew and negated the race’s start.
The restart would again see Carrick fall back to second, but he would have a run on the leader getting into turn one. Diving low, Carrick would get a little tight and as he pushed up the track he would make slight contact with the leader, though he would remain in second as the caution flag would waive with one lap in the books.
Under the yellow, Carrick would feel something amiss on the right front corner of his car and would make the right hand turn into the pit area and his night would come to a close.
“I have to thank Clark, and everyone for their hard work,” Carrick added. ‘Looking forward to the year ahead.”
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, and Spike Chassis for their support.
