PETERSEN MEDIA: With 2017 primarily devoted to wheels a Keith Kunz Midget, Tanner Carrick took advantage of an open weekend and returned to his native California to pilot his family owned sprint car where he picked up an eighth place finish with the Civil War Series on Saturday night.
“We had a pretty good night on Saturday,” Tanner Carrick said. “We had some decent speed, and fell back a little in the early goings of the feature. We fought back to eighth despite some steering issues late in the race.”
Taking on the Civil War Series on Saturday night in Marysville, CA for the Mel Hall Memorial, Carrick would open the night up by timing his CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T machine in ninth fastest during qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Carrick would hook up in a heated battle with one of the best ever to race at Marysville Raceway in Colby Wiesz. Falling back to third after a hard fought battle with Wiesz, Carrick would move to the feature event where he would line up in the ninth starting position.
On a racy Marysville Raceway surface, the Lincoln, CA youngster would get off to a bit of a slow start as he would lose a couple of positions in the early part of the fast paced feature event and run back in the 12th spot.
Battling his way forward, Carrick ran in the ninth spot when the red flag flew at the race’s halfway point. Continuing to look for more, Carrick would move up to the eighth spot when the action resumed.
Chasing after Jake Haulot and Kurt Nelson in the final laps of the Mel Hall Memorial feature event, Carrick would start to fight steering issues. Able to make it to the finish, Carrick would take the checkered flag in the eighth spot.
Scheduled to run on Sunday night in Chico, CA Carrick and company would fight engine issues during hot laps and scratch from the program.
“I have to thank Clark Riolo and my family for working so hard this weekend,” Carrick said. “It was nice to get home and in the sprint car, but I am looking forward to a busy stretch in the midget starting this week.”
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, and Timberworks Construction for their support.
ON TAP: Tanner Carrick will reunite with the Keith Kunz team on Wednesday May 31st in Joilet, IL, June 1st in Fairbury, IL and on June 2nd in Jacksonville, IL.
