PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to the seat of a Keith Kunz Midget towards the end of the 2020 season, Tanner Carrick was back with the familiar team to kick the 2021 USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Series season off over the weekend in Ocala, FL where the Lincoln, CA driver would hard charge his way to a couple of Top-10 finishes.
“We had really good speed all weekend long, but I just made a couple of mistakes in time trials that really hurt us in both feature events,” Tanner Carrick said. “With the way the track was, track position was huge, and I just put us too far back in the field.”
With rain wreaking havoc on the entire weekend essentially, Carrick would get the season kicked off on Friday night where he timed the Keith Kunz Motorsports/Curb Records/Toyota backed No. 98K machine in 13th fastest before finishing sixth in heat race.
Getting the ‘B’ Main in as weather rolled into the area, Carrick’s fourth place finish moved him safely into the first feature event of the season as he took the green flag from the 14th position.
Hurrying to try and get the race in before the rain came, the first 13 laps would be completed before the skies opened and forced the race to get suspended. Moving the final 17 laps to Saturday afternoon, Carrick would flex his muscles a little on the extremely slick surface as he carved his way into the Top-10 and ended up with an eighth-place finish.
Timing in 10th fastest for Saturday’s regularly scheduled program, more rain would show up and force the show to be postponed until Monday night.
With clear skies on Monday, Carrick would get the night started off in heat race action where he would run fourth and transfer into the feature event.
On the lightning-fast surface after all the weather that was endured, Carrick would pick up what positions he could as passing would prove to be tough.
Working into the Top-10 in the fast-paced feature, Carrick closed the weekend out with a ninth-place finish.
“Big thanks to Keith, Kaz and my guys,” Carrick added. “They really gave me a fast car every time we hit the track, and I am really excited for the season ahead.”
Tanner Carrick would like to thank Keith Kunz Motorsports, Curb Records, Toyota, TRD, IWX, Mobil1, Walker Performance Filtration, and Wilwood for their support.
