PETERSEN MEDIA: Reuniting with Keith Kunz Motorsports on Saturday night in DuQuoin, IL for the first time since the season opening USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget Series event back in February, Tanner Carrick would pick up a 13th place finish at the Shamrock Classic.

“Our results are not really indicative of the night we had, and it was great to get back in the KKM car,” Tanner Carrick said.

Running a Chili Bowl type format on Saturday night, Carrick would open the night up by winning his heat race aboard the Craftsman/CVC/TRD backed No. 71K entry.

Moving into a qualifier as he sat inside the Top-40 in points after heats, the Lincoln, CA driver would line up in the second row of his race. Slipping back to fourth when the green flag was displayed, Carrick would get back into third and challenge his KKM teammate, Logan Seavey for the second position.

Making a bid for the spot, Carrick would be unsuccessful and his third place finish would not be enough to transfer directly into the feature event as he was forced into the ‘B’.

Racing his way to a second place finish in the semi, Carrick would extend his night as he transferred into the feature event and would take the green flag from the 14th starting position.

Though mired deep in the field, Carrick would continue to show speed in the KKM machine as he would fight his way forward and find himself inside the Top-10. In the race’s closing laps, the former series Rookie of the Year would get up into the DuQuoin Center crash wall, and it would cost him a couple of spots as he would slip back to finish 13th.

“Our result is probably different if I am able to make a pass in my qualifier to gain points, but it didn’t happen and we had to work forward from the back of the pack,” Carrick added. “We had a really good car, and I was hoping we could get into the Top-10 there at the end but it just didn’t happen. Thanks to everyone for the hard work.”

Tanner Carrick and the Keith Kunz Motorsports team would like to thank Craftsman, CVC, TRD, Spike Chassis, Cemex, Arai, and Shell Shock for their support.
