Carrick Caps Turnpike Challenge with Podium Finish

PETERSEN MEDIA: Another busy week of racing with Petry Motorsports in Oklahoma culminated with Tanner Carrick picking up a third place finish during the Turnpike Challenge finale at Port City Raceway.

“It was a pretty good weekend for our Petry Motorsports team,” Tanner Carrick said. “We had really good speed all weekend, and it was great to get this thing back up on the podium on Sunday night.”

I-44 Riverside Speedway was the scene of the first two nights of action. Friday night, the Lincoln, CA driver lined the Ara/K1 Race Gear/Mobil1 backed No. 35 entry up in the second row of his heat race.

Looking very sporty, Carrick would pick up valuable passing points as he finished second and found himself in the second row of Qualifier No. 3. Dropping a few positions in the race, Carrick’s seventh place finish would keep him from transferring directly into the feature and would place him in a semi.

From the second row of his ‘B’, Carrick would power to the point and race his way to a win, safely keeping his night going as he punched his ticket into the 30-lap feature event.

Coming from the back of the pack, Carrick would work his way forward a few positions, but passing would prove to be challenging in dense traffic. Getting what he could, Carrick capped Friday night with a 15th place finish.

Back at I-44 Riverside Speedway on Saturday night, Carrick would capitalize on his front row starting position in his heat race as he raced his way to the win and moved into a qualifier. Lining up in the second row, Carrick continued to flex his muscle as he jumped into the second position, and chased Logan Seavey across the finish line.

By way of his heat race and qualifier performance, Carrick found himself in the feature event as he took the green flag from the second row. Battling with the likes of Jake Neuman and Daison Pursley, Carrick spent much of the feature battling for position inside the Top-5.

As time ran out in the 30-lapper, Carrick would cross the stripe with a sixth place finish.

Moving to Port City Raceway to cap the weekend off on Sunday night, Carrick continued to show the same speed he showed at I-44 Riverside Speedway.

Lining the Petry Motorsports No. 35 entry up in the second row of his heat race, Carrick surged his way forward and picked up another heat race win on the weekend. Gridding the field from the sixth starting position in his qualifier, Carrick continued to make big moves on the tight confines of Port City Raceway.

Working his way up to a second place finish, Carrick would line up in the second row of the final feature event of the weekend.

From the second row, Carrick would find himself in a knockout, drag-down battle for the second position with Tanner Thorson as the duo exchanged the position several times as they both worked on the cushion.

In a spirited battle, Thorson would get the position in the end, and Carrick would cap his weekend by claiming the final spot on the podium.

“It was great to be in the mix all weekend,” Carrick said. “With the new team in 2020, I feel like we are getting better and better with each race, so hopefully we can continue to be fast when we get back with USAC in a few weeks.”

Tanner Carrick at Petry Motorsports would like to thank Arai, K1 Race Gear, Mobil1, FK Rod Ends, Keizer Wheels, ZMax, DR Horton, Toyota TRD, CVC, Cemex, BK Titanium, Interstate Oil Company, Emerald, and Harris & Sloan for their support.
