Carrick 13th on Sunday After Saturday Night Contact Ends Strong Run

Despite Mother Nature trying her best to wash the weekend of racing in Illinois out for Tanner Carrick and his Keith Kunz Motorsports team, both shows were able to get in as Carrick would finish 13th on Sunday night at Belle-Clair Speedway after contact while battling for the lead late on Saturday night at Southern Illinois Raceway would cut his race short.

“Saturday night we were really good,” Tanner Carrick said. “Unfortunately we got together with Tyler Courtney while battling for the lead and it knocked the front end out and ended our night.”

With Friday’s regularly scheduled race at Belle-Clair getting pushed to Sunday, Saturday night at Southern Illinois Raceway would kick the weekend off.

SIR officials would do a great job of the getting the facility ready after a couple of days of rain, but it would lead to a hooked up and fast surface for the Lucas Oil POWRi Midgets.

Picking up a win in his heat race, Carrick would move to the feature event where he found himself in the fourth row to kick the race off. On the locked down surface, Carrick had his elbows up as he patiently worked his way into the Top-5.

Getting into third just before the race’s halfway point, Carrick would get past KKM teammate, Jesse Colwell and take over the second position as he chased after Courtney who was out front and setting the pace.

Battling hard for the top spot, Courtney and Carrick would get together on the 23rdlap and somehow continue on for another lap until Carrick’s night came to an end as he slowed with front end damage from the contact.

Moving to Belle-Clair Speedway on Sunday night after rain delayed the show that was scheduled for Friday, Carrick would line up fifth in his heat race and work his way up to finish 3rd.

When points were tabulated, Carrick would safely be locked into the feature event, though he would have his work cut out for himself as he took the green flag from the 11th starting position.

Mired in traffic from the drop of the green flag, Carrick would soon find himself battling a break issue on his KKM mount. Doing what he could in traffic, Carrick would drop a couple of positions over the course of the race before he capped his weekend off with a 13th place finish.

“Kind of bummed with how Saturday ended, but I have to thank the guys for giving me a car that was good enough to win,” Carrick said. “Thanks to all of my KKM supporters who make this all possible.”

Tanner Carrick and the Keith Kunz Motorsports team would like to thank Craftsman, CVC, TRD, Spike Chassis, Cemex, Arai, and Shell Shock for their support.
