The third installment of the Gateway Dirt Nationals at America’s Center in St. Louis, MO expanded to a Midget race, and getting the invite for the inaugural event Tanner Carrick would pocket a 14th place finish during Saturday night’s feature event.
“It was a neat event to take part in, and it was a lot of fun racing in the dome,” Tanner Carrick said. “Things got a little tricky in the feature on Saturday night, but still pleased with our run and how we started indoor season.”
Friday night the action kicked off with time trials and the Lincoln, CA pilot timed the CVC/TRD/Spike machine in third quickest in time trials. In a very tough heat race, Carrick was spectacular as he raced his way to the win and found himself on the front row of one of the win preliminary night feature events.
On the front row of a very tough feature event, Carrick would work his way around the America’s Center surface, as he chased after a Top-Four position to lock himself directly into Saturday night’s feature event.
Though he would come up one spot short, Carrick felt confident in his machine after finishing fifth in the opening night feature event.
Returning to action Saturday night for ‘B’ Mains and the feature, the youngster would take care of business as his third place finish propelled him into the Gateway Dirt Nationals 30-lap feature event where he would roll off of the starting grid from the 18th starting position.
With the track getting a little rough and tumble following Late Model and Modified action, things would get a little tricky for the drivers in the midget race and moving and shaking would be tough.
From the ninth row, Carrick would take what he could as he kept the rubber side down on his Keith Kunz Motorsports prepared midget.
Working his way forward a handful of positions, Carrick would close his weekend out with a 14th place finish.
“You had to be cautious with the way the track was,” Carrick added. “It was almost too rough to try and slide anyone, and if you did you had to hit it right or there was a good chance to go for a ride. My guys did a great job, we had a great car and I am looking forward to the next one.”
Tanner Carrick and the Keith Kunz Motorsports team would like to thank CVC, TRD, Spike Chassis, Cemex, Arai, and Shell Shock for their support.
