Tanner Carrick and his Keith Kunz Motorsports team have been extremely fast this year and the Lincoln, CA driver has been knocking on the door for his first win. Saturday night that changed, as Carrick was able to pick up the Lucas Oil POWRi Series Feature Event win at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO.
Lining up on the front row of the feature event alongside KKM teammate, Ryan Robinson, Carrick would stomp on the throttle when the green flag dropped and jumped out to the early lead.
Taking a liking to the high, scary side of the speedway, Carrick would continue to lead the way though he would feel pressure from veteran shoe, Jerry Coons, Jr and teammate, Logan Seavey.
Staying poised and under control while running the ragged edge, Carrick would keep the top spot while he kept his challengers at bay. Putting together a flawless race, Carrick would breakthrough and score his first career Midget win aboard the potent CVC/TRD/Spike Chassis entry.
Carrick’s Saturday night start off with the Lincoln, CA driver picking up the heat race win which put him in position to line up on the front row of the feature event.
Friday night also saw Carrick and company in action with the Lucas Oil POWRi Series as they checked into Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, MO.
Finishing third in his heat race, Carrick would move into the feature event where he would grid the field from the 15th starting position. With a well prepared Keith Kunz Motorsports machine under him, Carrick would have his elbows up as he worked his way forward.
Racing his way inside the Top-10 quickly, Carrick would continue to battle as he looked for more. With time running out on the USAC National Midget Series Rookie of the Year, Carrick would close Friday night out with a seventh place finish.
“We have been so close to getting our first win, it feels great to finally get it done,” Tanner Carrick said. “Keith and Big Al always give me a great car but bad luck or mistakes have held us back. Saturday night I kept telling everyone it was going to be the night, and I was fortunate enough to put it all together. This feels pretty cool.”
Tanner Carrick and the Keith Kunz Motorsports team would like to thank CVC, TRD, Spike Chassis, Cemex, Arai, and Shell Shock for their support.
