PETERSEN MEDIA: Battling with the Lucas Oil POWRi Midgets over the weekend, Tanner Carrick would pick up two hard fought Top-10 finishes at Valley Speedway and Lucas Oil Speedway.
“I have to thank Keith and Pete, and everyone who helps on these cars for all of their hard work over the weekend,” Tanner Carrick said.
Friday night would kick off the double-header weekend for Carrick and the KKM team as they made the journey to Grain Valley, MO to tackle Valley Speedway. With 53 cars on hand, Carrick would line the TRD/Curb Records/IWX backed No. 71k machine up in the third row of his heat race.
With passing points on the line, Carrick would pick up a couple of positions during his heat race as he finished third, but it would not be quite enough as he just missed out on making it into the feature event.
Finding himself on the front row of one of the twin semi’s, Carrick would take care of business aboard the IPC/CVC/Cemex backed entry. Picking up the win, Carrick would punch his ticket into the 30-lap feature event.
Gridding the field from the 16th starting position, things would be slow to start as stoppages on the initial start and on lap one would hamper the race’s early flow. An extended green-flag run would see the first year midget driver get going on the racy surface.
Getting up the fight for position in the Top-10, another caution would fly just past the halfway point. As the action resumed, Carrick continued to work his way forward as he would take the checkered flag with a ninth place finish.
Saturday night saw Carrick and the KKM team travel to Wheatland, MO and battle with the POWRi Series again to close out the weekend.
With the draw not going his way, the Lincoln, CA native would find himself in the eighth starting spot in his heat race. Working his way up to finish sixth, Carrick would be forced into the another ‘B’ main where he would line up in the sixth spot.
Able to move around the Lucas Oil Speedway a little bit, Carrick would work into the third spot, which would again keep his night alive and place him in the feature event.
Having his work cut out for him, the rookie midget driver would grid the field from the 22nd starting position in the feature event. When the green flag flew on the race, Carrick was hard on the throttle as he began carving his way through the star-studded field.
As the laps clicked off, Carrick seemed to get stronger and more comfortable on the ‘Diamond of Dirt Tracks’. When the dust settled on the fast paced feature event, Carrick had successfully worked his way up to the ninth spot at the finish line.
“The track on Saturday night was pretty good, and it let us move around and move forward,” Carrick said. “Again, I just really want to thank all the guys who work on this car, and the people that support me and the race team.”
Tanner Carrick and the Keith Kunz Motorsports team would like to thank TRD, Curb Records, IPC, Cemex, CVC, and Shell Shock for their support.
